Is Living in More Sexy Than Getting Married?

Is Living In With A Lover More Sexy Than Marrying To Get A Husband?

Angela Jolie and Brad Pitt are thinking of got married after years of living together. Why? With half a dozen kids and six years of living in - better late than never, or then not so?

Quite a feat looking at the long list of live in relationships ending in break ups where the two people who were once inseparable go their own (bitter) ways. And this brings me to the entire premise of live in relationships, should one? Or then should one tie the knot and go for the conjugal bond?

My very personal opinion is that if you’re looking for long term commitment then it may not be a great idea to live in without putting your stock into the marital union which spells long term union.

There is no such thing really as ‘trial marriage’. You can live together, have sex, put your dirty clothes in the same washing machine and share the same room but that does not a marriage make. It is not even a preparation for marriage.

It is in my opinion a convenience of sorts without the attendant responsibilities. The live in couple seldom feel secure in the relationship and the desire to create palatable solutions to work toward a future together is absent.

Seductive Japan

Seductive Japan

In 1993 I spent several months in Japan at a little town called Ibaraki and entered a new world of custom, thought and life. More so when I visited Hakone, Mount Fuji et al in the course of a lyrical, beautiful stay with Sachiko, my flatmate  from Los Angeles, and her mother, Keiko Hattori.

They  gave me a Japanese name, 'Sakura'!
Their word for cherry blossom - a most treasured flower, in their affection and desire to make me part of their beautiful family.

When A Couple Fight! Katrina Kaif & Salman Khan Aren't the only ones who parted ways!

Solving That Battle & Making your Relationship Work By Nisha JamVwal

There was a major learning for me this week, that only a couple in a marriage can work things out for themselves. In my zealousness I had felt protective about the closer spouse from among a couple. Only later did I realize that taking sides and ‘helping’, however well meant, can topple the apple cart and fan already tenuous flames.
A couple must be left to find their own balance.

The Grand Phinda Safari With Nisha JamVwal

The Grand Phinda Safari.....
Sitting in the charter en route South Africa’s special jewel, Phinda, I saw my first African elephant, the first of what was going to be a very special relationship with these imposing animals of the wild. Part of the Getty family, our hosts, Cecilia and Pierre, pointed out my first giraffe who actually came and nuzzled to me, a moment etched in my memory forever, even as I was clambering onto the land rover with the help of Hendrick, our ranger, guide and Bush philosopher.

Being Friends After Parting Ways By Nisha JamVwal

CAN YOU BE FRIENDS AFTER PARTING WITH A LOVER

Tabloid has it that Deepika Padukone, when asked who she would rate higher, if she had to, a beau or her father, answered it would be her father. At least she's sure he's there for keeps. A sign of the times wouldn’t you say? Relationships these days seem to come with an increasing factor of transience and fragility.

What I'm ruminating on  then, is whether breakups can be about 'parting as friends' or, even if  initially  acrimonious can, at some future,  outgrow the raw  hurt, resentment, betrayal, pain and the blame gambit, to remember the good and for the sake of that, find a semblance of friendship?

NISHA JAMVWAL -SNEAK PEAK INTO HER SPACE!

A Portrait of Nisha JamVwal By Sanjiv Sonpimpre
There is a slight aura of mystery about Nisha JamVwal’s Mumbai-based home. As we talk prior to the shoot, she says she’s a private person and very few people have had access to her home. “It’s an extension of my personality, a window to my story and I don't like to have people in this private space mostly.”

MILAN MILAN MILAN

This roof's a maze of spires and pinnacles
Casting a tracery of shade as I stand
  Transfixed in the arched doorway
I balance  On slate tiles to peer up
at the gargoyles  Poised to swoop

from a belfry or gable.  Marble

Pious tyrants crossed on the way to Mass:

Getting Out Of A Violent Relationship

Violence & Abuse Is Like a Drug, It holds You Supressed & Captive

Like a Trapped Animal
You Cannot Run
You Cannot Breathe
You Cannot Live

If you are in a bad relationship , and you are unable to get away, nearly like some terrible binding rope, you cant live without it and you cannot live with it situation, some awful drug which has you in its clutches, then slowly work it out of your system.

Dress Your Best When You Feel Your Worst

For me mother’s formula endures when you are at your lowest - look your best when you feel your worst!

If you can’t make it, fake it! Impossible though it sounds, when the world just seems to have crashed around you, somewhere along the way your cells get the program and it works better than the erstwhile movie tragedienne’s demeanor.

Bonding & Cementing A Friendship

Don’t forget to smell the roses while there’s still some summer

Bonding over shopping, a game, a walk, a French lesson, just about anything cements a relationship with that special connection which a forced social introduction can never do.

We all know it all. But something about metros gets us inhibited. It’s not the sophiscate urbane thing to bond without a social interaction, beyond barriers and ‘classes’.

Be A Gentleman

Gentle reminder to be Gentlemenlike !

I walked up at a recent dinner to the table of the ex traffic commissioner's to say hello, and after the initial hello , fully expectant that he'd stand, waited to start the conversation! So you can imagine my shock when he continued to sit most indolently, while I on my part chatted, inadvertently waiting for him to stand! Perhaps he must've felt that being the ex commissioner absolved him of good manners?

‘It’s the last Shangri-la’ My Journies In Bhutan By Nisha JamVwal

Sparkling Silent Bhutan

NishaJamvwal

For someone who has “roller coaster schedules and tough deadlines — that make for a madding crowd my trip to mountainous Bhutan was a much needed-escape. High in the Himalayas, it’s unspoiled and pure. Nothing prepared me for this last Shangri-la on earth. The customs, friendly people and deeply-held beliefs was therapeutic.

Aamir Khan's Secrets & Confidences By Nisha JamVwal

Chatting to Aamir
@nishjamvwal

BOLLYWOOD’S CURRENT
GOD

'Delhi Belly' is the ultimate culture shock for Aamir's fans I'm told. On his way to dinner , the script was discovered amidst a pile of unread scripts almost accidently. And the next thing he knew he was producing the first film that might forever eradicate the ultra clean image of his production channel. And he's not complaining. Infact I'd say he's enjoying the change.

But then that's what Aamir's USP is, change, experiment and exploration.

Time for Love & Intimate Bonds

That Magic Flash of Discovery that we've discovered A True Friend-Time.
Where is it all gone?

I don't seem to find traces of any of it all?  Here I am feeling I’m on a crazy roller-coaster ride whizzing with its swoops and panic ridden thrills - and a formidable to do list extending into the near and far future. Mundane and ambitious. The to do list reeling under it all.

Today here I am, doing what I wanted to.
People say I’ve got it all- success with its attendant props and paraphernalia.  An accomplished wish list   (almost).
And ‘friends’!!!

Warren Buffet Breakfast with Nisha JamVwal

WARREN BUFFET GIVES HIS WALLET TO NISHA

One would have expected much jargon and involved financial plans and philosophies from Warren Buffet. So I went to the private closed door breakfast do expecting it to be a ‘gods best friend speaks from a pedestal to normal mortal’s’ breakfast do. What transpired was delightful and contrary. I met a warm, irreverently humorous, charming man teeming with thoughts and ideas, who seemed to embody a magical enthusiasm, a man whose child within hadn’t died. A man who had touched my life with his infectious excitement at being alive.

The question and answer interaction was even more inspirational, I came out charged with ideas and thoughts. “I jump out of bed and tap dance to work every morning, life excites me” he said. ‘For me there is no destination, it’s just the journey. Life is like an unfinished painting.” IT brought to mind what Aamir Khan’s character in Three Idiots propounds,

Intimate Sexy Yacht Parties By Nisha JamVwal

Party Trend By Nisha Jamvwal
Published In L'Official

Bombay the epicentre of trends in India, reinvents its party mantras all the time. Mid Air fashion shows, exotic Island parties and now Yacht parties that are the trend. The luxury yacht scene, so far the bastion of the affluent and glamorous across the globe, has arrived (in India too), for pleasure & adventure, a statement of uber luxury beyond the 'been there done that 'luxury hotels and private jets. For me the expanse of the horizon, the sky’s vastness above, the lap of waves make for that inimitable experience at once exhilarating, calming & liberating,

Rencontre with Jeffrey Archer on Love, Writing, Life, Literature

Excerpts of my Interview/ Recontre for L'Official Magazine
With Jeffrey Archer
An informal chat at Taj Mahal Palace Hotel Bombay

Nisha: Tell us about the new book, And thereby hangs a tale. What do you want to say to the readers through this story
?

Jeffrey :I have been inspired by my travels over the past few years, to write 15 short stories set around the world that I hope will intrigue and amuse my readers – from Germany, there is A Good Eye, the tale of a priceless oil painting that has remained in the same family for over 200 years, to Italy and No Room at the Inn, and and to the finale, a love story about two interesting people I met while in India, Caste-Off, set in Delhi.

Nisha interjects : I think Jeffrey readers will love your rendition of a story that is real but edited with such style and staccato quickness where he cuts to the present, and in India they will enjoy reading the story of someone they know and see often in the media, without knowing the reality of her life!

MAKE IT BIGGER & BETTER FOR ME PLEASE!

A Little Empathy Please

Coming back to warm, hospitable, over solicitous India was magical! Just over a decade ago- back from my study work stint in the US of A- and I was ready to conquer the world! Little had I imagined how drastically one disastrous split second could change my life. An accident to a dear one in my life.

Yes India is hospitable to all and sundry. But not to wheelchairs. Have you noticed how people on wheelchairs seldom go out in this country? How they cannot nearly ever use public spaces? How they actually hibernate and hide at home as a result? However a person close to me, a state level sportsman, a sports star from his college days, when he was hit with spinal injury, was not about to be stuck indoors. Wheelchair or no wheelchair. He was tenacious, optimistic,              rambunctious and an outdoor man in every way.

SUSHMITA SEN & NISHA JAMVWAL'S SPECIAL SECRET

A Brush With The Divine -- Sushmita Sen and Nisha JamVwal Picture # 155976

Doing an Art show with Sushmita Sen for her NGO was enriching. Not only because she is a great person to work with, expansive, nurturing, appreciative, as is Neelam her sister, but because to take time out to care for our people is most important in an age of selfishness and personal agendas.
